Background
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, tasked with facilitating the discussion of international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations System. Established in 1945 by the UN Charter, ECOSOC has 54 rotating member states and oversees a broad ecosystem of bodies, including subsidiary bodies, UN entities, 3,200+ registered NGOs and 6,000+ NGOs with consultative status. The current President, Her Excellency Lachezara Stoeva, was elected the seventy-eighth President of the Economic and Social Council on 25 July 2022.

Note: This council will follow HMUN Rules of Procedure.
Topic 1: Promoting Sustainable Natural Resource Management
Natural resources are the original fuel behind all human innovations, one that has been massively underappreciated until very recently. It is important to realize the importance of preserving these natural resources as much as possible when utilizing them, in order to care for the future. However, points of contention such the global divide, rights to resources, accuracy of data collection and much more make promoting sustainable resource management a complex, multi-faceted problem the ECOSOC must come together to solve.
Topic 2: Promoting Access to Affordable Housing
In order to improve worldwide access to affordable housing, the issues of rapid urbanization, increasing inequality, economic and welfare problems must all be addressed in good turn. The limited access that exists today only exacerbates the underlying issues, when poor households are unable to afford housing that enables them to properly settle down and regain their footing. Thus, it is clear that ECOSOC’s intentions of promoting access to affordable housing is vital.
