Background
Established in 2006 by the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental body within the United Nations that endeavours to strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights globally and address situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. The council is mandated as well to coordinate human rights education and public information programmes, engage in dialogue with governments to secure respect for all human rights, and rationalise, adapt and streamline the UN human rights machinery.

Topic 1: Ensuring the Protection of Migrants' Human Rights
Migrants have long been a marginalised group, but the establishment of organizations like the UNHRC are an important step to reduce the discrimination and abuse they face today. There is a severe lack of discussion on this topic, as well as insufficient surveillance internationally. It is thus the responsibility of the UNHRC to further protect and ensure the rights of migrants internationally.
Topic 2: Governments and the Displacement of Indigenous People
A troubling issue faced by governments worldwide is the displacement of indigenous people, one that many have faced in a disgraceful manner. The emergence of discussion about indigenous rights was first put into motion by various indigenous people’s organizations, and it is high time that the UNHRC continue to improve upon what has been done before.
