Background
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. UNEP uses its expertise to strengthen environmental standards and practices while helping implement environmental obligations at the country, regional and global levels. UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Topic 1: Enforcing Regulations on the Usage of Nuclear Plants
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki forcefully introduced the world to the devastating nature of uncontrolled nuclear energy, leading to the beginning of international interest in using this energy for both good and bad. Fast forward to the present, and nuclear power plants are now an up-and-coming source of clean energy that many countries are eager to adopt. Thus, it is important to discuss and enforce regulations, in order for the world to safely transition to nuclear energy together.
Topic 2: Ensuring a Just Transition Into Sustainability
Industrialization, modernization, and even the age of the Internet has affected the world in a non-linear way, with LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries) often lagging behind much of the modern world. It has been a longtime aim of the UNEP to reduce the inequality of this situation, however it is clear that not enough has been done. Thus, it is the responsibility of the UNEP to ratify this unjust situation by ensuring a just transition into sustainability.
